Ada Hewett

Ada Maudell Grant Hewett passed away January 14, 2013, in Pine View, Georgia at the age of 99, less than five months away from turning 100 years old. She was born June 1, 1913, in Bascom, Florida. She retired from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles in 1975 at the age of sixty-two with twenty-seven years of service. She started work in 1948, supporting herself and her four children. Upon retirement, she bought a house in Blountstown, Florida and was an active member of the Gateway Baptist Church for twenty-seven years. In 2003, she moved to Pine View to live with her daughter, Beth Powell. She loved her family and was especially blessed with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandson. Preceding her in death were her parents, eight siblings, and her first born son, James B. Hewett. She is survived by her son, Charles W. Hewett and wife, Mamie Ruth of Tallahassee, Florida; daughters, Beth Powell of Pine View, and Willie Mae Lamar of Labelle, Florida; three grandsons, Thomas Alan Lamar, Charles Paul Hewett, and James Benjamin Hewett, all of Tallahassee; two granddaughters, Sheila Day, also of Tallahassee and Jamie McGlamry of Abbeville, Georgia; one great-granddaughter, Hailey Davis of Abbeville; two great-grandsons, Grant Frazier Hewett and Brantley Paul Hewett of Tallahassee; and one great-great-grandson, Reed Samuel Davis of Abbeville; two nephews, Millard Nixon of Lynn Haven, Florida and John Andrew O'Bryan of Davie, Florida; two nieces, Sandra Sellars and Mary Francis Howard of Tallahassee; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. (CST) Friday, January 18, at Adams Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. (CST) in the Chapel. Interment will follow at Chipola Cemetery in Altha, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Gateway Baptist Church Gideon Fund, 17667 Main Street North, Blountstown, Florida, 32424 in her memory.
