Lamar lived in Calhoun County most of his life and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Lamar spent his life in Calhoun County. He was known as a “man of few words,” but he lived a life with great impact. After graduating from Altha High School, he enrolled in the United States Army for two years. He and his mother ran Shelton’s Store for many years, and he ran B&L Land Clearing with his father. For many years, people would stop in at the store for a “cold drink and chips,” and he developed many friendships over the counter that will last forever. He loved watching basketball and spending time outdoors. Lamar was a Florida Gator fan, and he loved spending time on his tractor and farming. His grandchildren would always bring a smile to his face. He is preceded in death by his father, Barney Lee Shelton, and his brothers, Harold and Ralph Shelton. Survivors include his mother, Lorene Shelton; his wife, Shelia D. Shelton of Altha; his sons, Andy Lamar Shelton and his wife Ramona of Marianna, and Brent Deason Shelton and his wife Lesley of Spanish Fort, Alabama; a daughter, Karen LaDease Shelton of Altha; his grandchildren Emma Whitehead, Alexa Eanes, River Shelton, Leah Whitehead, and Cole Shelton.
