At 89 years old, Betty Jo Castleberry Hyatt Fitzpatrick gained her angel wings and ascended to her heavenly home on November 6th, 2024, at seven in the morning surrounded by her family. Born on June 10th 1935, to Thomas and Minnie Castleberry, she was raised in Altha Florida. She married Roy Leon Hyatt in 1952 and had forty-six years of love and raising children until his death in 1998. She married Billy Floyd Fitzpatrick in 2010 and remained by his side until death in 2015. She attended multiple schools with degrees in library science and elementary education ultimately obtaining her PhD in education from Florida State University. She worked in the public school system for thirty-five years and stayed active with the retired teachers association of Escambia County for many years after her retirement. She had a strong faith and was very active in the United Methodist Church women’s group and their missions.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: Roy Hyatt and Bill Fitzpatrick, 2 brothers, and one sister.
She is survived by her children: RoLynn Watson(Monty), Catherine Stevens(James Cummings), Joel Hyatt, Claudia Simmons, Charlotte Peacock(Lloyd), and Robert Hackle. Grandchildren: Tasha Cason, Hannah Jo Stevens, Cassie Peacock, Beau Peacock, Kent Simmons, Neal Simmons, Amy Hackle, and Sara Lin. Additionally she has numerous great grandchildren. She leaves two brothers and one sister behind on Earth. She will forever be missed by our family for her love of us and compassion for all. She loved reading and writing and also enjoyed working in her flower beds.
Visitation will be held at 1:30 to 2:30 in the afternoon on Sunday November 10th, 2024, at Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown, Florida. Her graveside service will be held at New Shiloh Cemetery in Chason, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Roy Hyatt Environmental Center in her memory. Checks should be payable to the Escambia County Public School Foundation with Roy Hyatt Center in check comments and mailed to Roy Hyatt Environmental Center, to Mollie O’Connor, 1300 Tobias Road, Cantonment, Florida 32533.
