Elsie Geneva Powell

May 26, 1931 — June 18, 2023

Elsie Geneva Powell of Belleview, Florida, peacefully went home to be with the Lord June 18, 2023. She was born May 26, 1931 in Gadsden County, to the late J.D. and Annie Pauline Chason Elliott. Around the age of 12 she and her family moved from Lowry to Hosford, Florida, where she remained until she was married.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Powell; two sisters and their husbands, Mary and R.D. Sewell and Florece and T.W. Marshall; and her brother, James David Elliott.

She is survived by her son, Ricky Powell (Shirley) of Summerville, South Carolina; daughter, Debbi Brown (Tony) of Belleview, Florida; granddaughters, Elisa Juarez (Eddie) and Shelby Wheelus; grandson, Henry Brown; great grandsons, Marcus Colon and Cooper Wheelus; sister-in-law, Frances Elliott; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Geneva was a homemaker who loved to sew and quilt, but most of all she loved to cook and care for family and friends. She lived much of her life on Johns Island, South Carolina, where she raised her children and was always active in church. She served faithfully by her husband’s side while he built and pastored East Cooper Holiness Church in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. After retiring from pastoring, she and her husband moved to Telogia, Florida, where they attended her childhood church, Mt. Zion United Pentecostal Holiness Church. Health issues required her to move to Belleview, Florida, but she was faithful to the church and served the needs of her family and friends for as long as she was able.

Funeral services to honor and celebrate her life will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. ET at Mt. Zion United Pentecostal Holiness Church in Hosford, Florida, with Reverend Aaron Elkins officiating. The family will begin receiving friends on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Interment will follow in Sanders Cemetery in Hosford. Arrangements entrusted to Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown, Florida. Online condolences may be made at adamsfh.com 850-674-5449
