George Boggs

George Daniel Boggs of Jacksonville, Florida and formerly of Blountstown, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Monday, October 3, 2011 in Jacksonville at the age of 83. He was born January 18, 1928 in Thomasville, Georgia to the late Homer Boggs of Conneaut, Ohio and Minnie Boggs Greene of Blountstown. He was a longtime Florida resident. George graduated as Salutatorian from Blountstown High School in 1946, earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1953 and a Master in Business Administration from Georgia State University in 1971. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau, Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi, and Sons of the American Revolution. George was a Navy Veteran who served after WWII and during the Korean Conflict and then worked for thirty-six years for Southern Bell, Bell Labs and AT&T. George was a deacon in several churches and a member of Deermeadows Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He was also a Boy Scout Scoutmaster and proud that all three of his sons were Eagle Scouts. After retirement he volunteered for eleven years at St. Luke's hospital in Jacksonville. He was known for his warm smile and met the world and all people with a helping hand. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Joyce Bridges Boggs; his three sons, David (Danuta), James (Monique), and Ralph (Sarah); seven grandchildren, Dan, Scott, Jill, Mitchell, Lucy, Samantha, and Chloe; niece, Nancy Revell (Terry); sister-in-law, Margie Atkins and niece, Janie Atkins as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Louis Atkins. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. CT, Saturday, October 8 in Boggs Cemetery in Blountstown with Reverend David Throckmorton officiating. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. ET, Saturday, October 15 at Deermeadow Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Memorial gifts in memory of George may be made to his favorite charity, The Salvation Army online at www.salvationarmyusa.org. Adams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Phone 674-5449.
