James "Jimmy" Boone Mercer, age 77, of Chattahoochee, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010 at his home. He was born in Hosford and had lived many years in Liberty County before moving to Chattahoochee in 2005. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Air Force. He was an air traffic controller in Miami and Tallahassee for twenty-seven years and earned a BS Degree in Criminology at Florida State University when he was fifty-five years old. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Lion's Club, Woodmen of the World and also a Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boone and Leona (Bass) Mercer. He is survived by his wife, Margie; three daughters, Tammy Ramsey and her husband, Jimbo of Homestead, Florida; Sheilah Gowan and her husband, Dickie of Telogia; and Kay Gates of Pensacola; grandchildren, Michael, Josh, Marcus, Chelsea, Wade, Jessica, Bailey and Susan; one great-grandchild, Braden; and a sister, Margaret Shores of Ruskin, Florida. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. ET, Wednesday, November 3 at Hosford Cemetery with full military honors.
