James Yelvington

November 26, 1925 — August 18, 2010

James Russell "Jim" Yelvington, Sr. 84 of Blountstown passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at his home. Jim was born in Hastings Florida and attended the University of Florida where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Ag Management and a Masters in Horticulture. He served Calhoun County as the Extension Director for many years before his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blountstown where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director for Adult I for many years. He was a past Rotarian and a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty and a brother Kenneth. Survivors include sons James Russell "Rusty" Yelvington and his wife Nell of Bell, Florida and Michael Yelvington and his wife Wanda of Tallahassee; daughters Cheryl Creek and her husband Mike of Carrabelle and Sonya Todd and her husband Michael of Port St. Joe; Brothers Benjamin of Espanola, NM, and Robert Wayne Yelvington of Yelvington, Florida; Sisters Harriett Tucker and Mary VanNess both of Ocala and Nancy Banks of Green Cove Springs, Florida; eight Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, August 23, 2010 from the Blountstown First Baptist Church with Reverend David Throckmorton officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3-5 PM Sunday at the Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown.
