John Wood Ayers, 88 of Blountstown, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, in Tallahassee. John was born in Blountstown, July 27, 1933, to the late John Jefferson Ayers and Laura Ruth Wood Ayers. He graduated FSU with a bachelor’s degree in education and taught at Jenks Middle School for thirty-three years before his retirement. John was a past president for the Art Association in Panama City and was a master gardener. All who knew him will forever have fond memories of visiting his home and enjoying the flowers, rare trees and other beautiful plants surrounding his home. He was particularly fond of magnolias and rare trees. John also had a great love for history and worked diligently on the Calhoun County Heritage book with many of his contributions covering the county’s early history. In his younger days, he also studied art and produced several professional pieces. In memory of John, please plant a tree to help replace those destroyed by hurricane Michael. He leaves behind a host of wonderful friends that he considered family.
