Joseph “Spin” Alford, 81 of Blountstown, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at his home. Joe was born in Blountstown, July 5, 1941, to the late Joe Alford and Estelle Vickery. Joe served in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic and after his military service he attended Texas Western University where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. He taught school in Texas for a few years before moving to Blountstown where he taught in Calhoun County Schools for twenty years until his retirement. Joe loved fishing and spending time with his family. Joe’s nick name “Spin” is evidence enough about his love of fishing and started an enterprise of raising and selling striped bass on the commercial market.
Survivors include his wife Mary Esther Alford of Blountstown; his son, Erik Alford and his wife Kristin; his daughter, Elaine Barber and her husband Link of Bristol; a half brother, Sam Alford and a half sister, Connie Alford of Blountstown and his grandchildren that he loved dearly, Meredith and Macey Barber.
Services to honor Joe’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Blountstown United Methodist Church with Reverend Tyler Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Memorial Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
