Olean Woodward

August 16, 1923 — March 13, 2011

"Myrrh" Shuler Woodward, age 87, of Bristol passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at her home. She was born August 16, 1923 and was a lifetime resident of Bristol. She was a member of the Church of God where she served as a Sunday school teacher and church clerk for many years. After high school graduation she worked at Strickland's Grocery Store, and worked there until she entered Florida State University where she earned a BS and MS degree. She taught in the Liberty County School System for twenty-six years before retiring in 1979. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Woodward; parents, Grover and Clyde Shuler; two brothers, James P. Shuler, Sr. and G. C. Shuler; three sisters, Sally Carson, Mary and Robbie Woodward. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Roper and husband, Louis James of Bonifay; two grandchildren, James A. Roper and Britney Wesner and her husband, Robert, both of Bonifay; four great-grandchildren, Justin and Jayden Roper and Jayson Curlee and Ryan Wesner of Bonifay; four nephews, Lewis D. Carson and his wife, Myrlene of Bristol, James P. Shuler, Jr. of Idaho, Joey Shuler of Puerto Rico, and David Shuler of New Jersey; four nieces, Yvonne Summers and husband, Bauchie of Bristol, Terry Shattuck and husband, Bill of Fort Myers, Deardra Shuler of Riverdale, New York, Mary Shuler of Bristol, and a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews. Also included in the survivors is a dear friend, Ralph Whitfield and his wife, Olivia; and a special cousin, Carolyn Larkins and husband, Mitchell. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., ET, Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in the Bristol Church of God with Reverend Terry Blackburn officiating. Interment will follow in Bristol Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., ET, Tuesday, March 15 at Adams Funeral Home in Bristol. In lieu of flowers, for those desiring, a memorial gift may be made to the Bristol Church of God or the Bristol United Methodist Church.
