Ozie Corene Burkett McCroan, age 89, of Blountstown, Florida passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Blountstown Health and Rehabilitation Center of Blountstown. She was born February 18, 1924 to Richard and Rose (Wood) Burkett of the Macedonia Community. She was a homemaker the majority of her married life and along with her husband Robert they raised five daughters on their farm near Blountstown. She was a Christian and loved the Lord. She was an extraordinary cook and gardener who loved sharing her flowers, vegetables, and delicious food with everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. McCroan; daughter, Ruthie Taylor; and three grandchildren, Christy Carpenter, Alan McCroan, and Robert Taylor. Also preceding her in death were eleven brothers and sisters, Winnie Kelly, Jasper Burkett, Sula Tomassi, Clifford Burkett, Bertha Spears, Richard Burkett, Grady Burkett, Rosa Lee Parrish, Vassie Gaborik, and two infant brothers. Survivors include daughters, Marilyn Peddie and husband Jack of Bristol, Florida, Connie Carpenter and husband Cliff of Tallahassee, Florida, Christene Nettles and husband Jerre of Marianna, Florida, Oreba DuPont and husband George of Wakulla, Florida; grandchildren, Kelly Umphress and husband Tommy, Kevin Peddie and wife, Karen, Kammie Mann and husband Eric, Carrin Smith and husband Clint, Harley Ellerbee and husband John, Cindy Grantham and husband Gene, William Melton and wife Julie, Casey Hatcher and wife Nikki; fifteen great- grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by one brother, Olen Burkett of Sumpter, South Carolina and a special sister-in-law Lovie Burkett, plus a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Chapel at Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Blountstown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m.). Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the charity of choice. The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care that their mother and grandmother received from the staff at Blountstown Health and Rehabilitation Center.
