Phillip Woodrow "Woody" Griffin, age 73, of Blountstown, Florida passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013. Woody was born in Blountstown November 22, 1939 to the late Bud and Louise (Kent) Griffin and was a graduate of Blountstown High School. He was a stump wood contractor for Reichold Chemical Co. & Hercules Inc. from 1972 to 1997, worked eight years for the City of Blountstown, and was a courier for Cadence Bank for eight years. Woody served in the United States Army in Korea and as a chief helicopter mechanic at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He was a member of Christian Home Church where he served as a past deacon and served on the board of Nettle Ridge cemetery. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter, Brenda Dianne Griffin. Survivors include his wife, Gretchen (Tillman) Griffin of Blountstown; son, Phillip Griffin and wife Donna of Blountstown; daughter, Terri Waldron and husband Jim also of Blountstown; three grandchildren, Brittany Griffin, Jordan Griffin, and Carter Waldron all of Blountstown; two brothers, Clarence Griffin and James Griffin of Blountstown; and four sisters, Carolyn Finch of Chipley, Florida, Beulah Moran of Bristol, Florida, Zelma Smith of Crawfordville, Florida, and Alice Elmore of Lake Talquin, Florida, along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1 at Adams Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 2 at Christian Home Church with Reverend Paul Smith and Reverend David Goodman officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Covenant Hospice, 4440 Lafayette Street Suite C, Marianna, FL 32446.
