Sara A. McCoy, 92 of Panama City, Florida, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 in Santa Barbara, California after a brief illness. Sara was born in Blountstown, Florida, December 22, 1926 to the late Edward Exum McCaskill and Ireta Gem Boggs. She had one younger sister, Leoreta F. Melvin who predeceased her in 1995. She graduated from Bay High School and attended University of West Florida, where she received her bachelor's degree in education. Survivors include her two sons, Joseph Nicholas Brouwer and his wife Cynthia of Ventura, California and Peter W. Brouwer and his wife Galina, of Panama City, Florida; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Sara met her first husband, Frank Borgman-Brouwer, an officer in the Royal Dutch Airforce who was stationed at Tyndal Airforce base for training during the 2nd World War. They were married in Jackson Mississippi. Soon thereafter, Frank was transferred to Australia to serve in the Royal Dutch Airforce. At 17 years old, Sara traveled to Australia to be with Frank. While in Australia, their first son, Peter, was born. After the war, Frank, Sara, and Peter lived in the south of France, Holland, New Orleans, and Panama City. In 1960, Sara's second son, Nicholas was born. Frank passed away in 1964 from leukemia. Sara remarried in 1971 to Joseph H. McCoy. Sara and Joe lived in Panama City until Joe passed away in 1998. Sara continued to live in Panama City and was actively involved in the Woman's Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Florida Tribe of Eastern Creek Indians, and the Gem and Mineral Club. Sara loved arts and crafts and outdoors activities including camping, fishing, scalloping, walking the beach, and collecting seashells, gems and minerals. A celebration of Sara's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Boggs Cemetery in Blountstown, Florida. Interment will follow.
