Obituary of Patricia Mae Poyet

Patricia Mae Poyet (Pat), age 79, of Clearwater, Florida and formerly of Blountstown, passed away peacefully Monday, November 1, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Pat was born August 2, 1931 in Jamestown, New York and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida with her parents and brother in 1941 to escape the harsh Northern winters. She married Donald A. Poyet in 1949 and they remained in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area, raising their daughters, until their retirement in 1984. Retirement brought them to the warmth and friendship of Blountstown, Florida. Their church home became the First Baptist Church where Pat taught Sunday school, was part of the baptism committee, and volunteered at the church library and church office. As an accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed assisting the choir with robes and any sewing needs for church special events. Until illness prevented her from doing so, Pat also volunteered as a docent for the historic 'Pioneer Settlement' in Blountstown. One of her greatest joys was giving a tour, especially to children, to show and talk about the rich heritage of the area. She touched so many in so many special ways. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Anthony Poyet and her parents, Robert Oscar and Irene Lola (Comstock) Johnson. She is survived by daughters, Jan Ashworth and her husband, Roger of Haines City, Florida and Michelle Swann and husband, Stuart of Clearwater; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother William E. Johnson of Largo, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4 at Pine Memorial Cemetery near Blountstown with Reverend David Throckmorton officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown. In lieu of flowers, the family, in honoring her wishes, requests that memorial donations be made to the Florida Baptist Children's Home, 2300 Bartram Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32207 or to First Baptist Church for the Florida Baptist Children's Home.
