Denise Irene (Burkett) Johnson, 68, of Apalachicola, Florida, went home to be with the Lord January 29, 2021 following a brief illness. Denise was born in Apalachicola, to Betty Jo Johnson (Lowe) on November 24, 1952. She is survived by her son, Lee Burkett (Brooke) of Lynn Haven; her grandchildren, Kristen (Morgan), Preston, Zoey, and their Mother Denise Harper Burkett; bonus grandchildren Liv & Emily-Adele; husband of 43 years Jimmie Burkett, Sr.; brothers Willie (Diane) Johnson, Franklin (Debbie) Johnson, Jim (Cindy) Tomlin, Donnie (Tonia) Johnson; sisters Sheila (Johnny) Lolley, Christy (Chris) Stokes and Selena Noblit; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and her best friend, her ride-or-die, Rhonda Bailey.
Denise was proceeded in death by her mother, Betty Jo Johnson (Lowe); Joe & Irene Johnson her Maternal Grandparents, that she considered her Father & Mother & was raised as one of their own; Her sister, Carolyn Weber; a niece, Melisa Weber Johnson; her sister-in-law Phyllis Lewis Johnson; a nephew Dewayne Johnson and her Great Grandparents, W.J & Gussie Johnson.
Denise loved to fish, cook, bake and watch Hallmark movies. Denise would bake weekly and take cakes, brownies, and cheesecakes to her friends & family. She was almost world famous for her hushpuppies and cheesecakes. Above all she loved the Lord.
Denise loved Apalachicola and lived here her entire life. Denise worked at Johnson's Grocery, the seafood industry, Chapman Elementary lunchroom and cashiered at local stores.
Denise will be greatly missed by her family, friends and the communities she has served.
Services to honor and to celebrate Denise’s life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Apalachicola with sister Susan Roach officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Friday at the Church.
